INGREDIENTS

  • Tender Banana stem | Vazhaithandu – 1 cup (finely chopped)
  • Fresh thick curd – 1 cup
  • Green chilly –  1 – 2 nos ( Slitted or finely chopped )
  • Salt – As needed

To temper

  • Cooking oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Methi seed – 3/4 tsp
  • Fennel seed-1/2 tbs
  • Hing – 2 generous pinches
  • Curry leaves – few

Preparation

Steps of banana stem raita/dahi manja recipe:

1.Discard  the outer cover of banana stem and take the inner part separately. Cut into discs and remove the threads that comes in between the discs.Now chop them finely.

2.Mix 1 tsp salt in a bowl of water & immerse the chopped banana stem pieces till use. ( This helps to avoid discoloration)

  1. Now heat a tsp of oil in a a pan and temper mustard seeds , methi seed,fennel seed, hing and curry leaves and green chillies .Mix well.30415575_182107189254743_4664082690998272000_n

 

4.Add the tempered item in curd and salt as required.

5.Take the chopped banana stem pieces from the water , squeeze them well  . Before serving add  in the fresh curd & mix well and serve immediately.

6.Mouth watering Banana stem Raita is ready. Serve with rice.
