Lauki dal /Bottle gourd dal /Lau dali

Lauki dal is a simple, delicious and healthy dal recipe. Here chopped bottle gourd /lauki is cooked with moong dal and tadaka is added over it. It can be eaten either with steamed rice or roti. This dal is packed with full of protein and vitamins. That’s why this dish is also perfect for expecting mothers, breast feeding mother.

1. For lauki dal you can choose toor dal also. 2. You have to choose Tender bottle gourd for this recipe.

INGREDIENTS OF LAUKI DAL

Ingredients of Lauki dal

  • Bottle gourd-1medium size(chopped into small pieces)
  • Moong dal-1cup(grated)
  • Tomato-1medium size(chopped)
  • Turmeric powder-1/4teaspoon
  • Salt as per taste

FOR TEMPERING

  • Oil-2tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds/jeera-1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds-1/2teaspoon
  • Dry chili-2
  • Curry leaves-4-5
  • Hing-a pinch

Preparation

Steps of Lauki dal recipe:

Making lauki Dal

1.Wash and soak moong dals for 30 mins.

2.Boil 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker,when water started to boil put soaked moong dal, chopped lauki or bottle gourd, chopped tomato, salt, turmeric powder.

3.Give a stir.

4. Close the lid of the cooker and wait for 2 whistles. Then switch off the flame.

5. Wait for the cooker’s pressure to release automatically.

6. After the pressure is released, remove the lid. Give a stir and keep it aside.

Tempering

1. In pan or wok heat oil/ghee, hing, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds when it starts crackle, then add curry leaves, dry chili , fry for a minute. 2. Pour the hot tempering over the dal and mix well.

3. Your healthy lauki dal fry is ready to serve.

4. Enjoy protein and vitamins packed lauki dal with hot steamed rice with dollap of ghee. Isn’t it blissful meal!!!

1.Clean the moong dal with sufficient water and soak it for 30min.

2.In pressure cooker take 2cups water, boil it.           

3.When water started to boil put soaked moong dal, chopped lauki Or bottle gourd, chopped tomato, salt, turmeric powder.                                  

4.Give a stir.  

 5.Close the lid of cooker and wait for 2 whistles.(May be the cooking time Varried depending upon the size of cooker.) Then switch off the flame.

6.Wait to release gas automatically.

7.In pan or wok heat oil/ghee, hing, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds when it starts crackle, then add curry leaves, dry chili , fry for a minute.

 8.Pour the hot tempering over the dal and mix well.

9.Your healthy lauki dal is ready to serve with steamed rice.
