Sweet Pongal is prepared during pongal festival in Tamil Nadu and Sankranthi festival in Andhra Pradesh. pongal is made from newly harvested rice. It is cooked with jaggery, ghee and cashew nuts and is offered to sun god.

ABOUT PONGAL FESTIVAL –
Pongal festival is the one of the important festival ofHindu.This is harvesting festival and celebrated for four daya as-BOGI,SURIYA PONGAL,MATTU PONGAL &KANU PONGAL. sweet pongal is made on the first day of the Tamil of “Thai” for the harvest festival. It is thanks giving day for sun because sunlight is important for all plants to grow.
Today we will learn how to make sweet pongal with this easy recipe with step wise pictures.

INGREDIENTS OF SWEET PONGAL
- Raw Rice – 1/2 cup
- Yellow moong dal –1/4 cup
- Grated Jaggery – 1cup
- Water – 4cup + 1/4 cups
- Cardamom – 1/2tbs
- Cashew nuts – 7 to 8
- Raisin-7 to 8
- Ghee – 4 – 5 tbsp
Preparation
Steps of Sweet pongal recipe:
- Wash rice and soak for 10 mins.
Rice - Heat a pan and dry roast the Yellow moong Dal over a low flame till the aroma arises .
Fried moong dal - Take water in a wide bottomed pan or pressure cooker and bring to a boil.
Boil water - Add both the rice and moong dal. Mix well and close the lid,cook for 3-4 whistle .
Rice & moong dal - When pressure released from cooker,Mash it well and keep it aside.
Cooked rice & dal - In a bowl/pan take jaggery and water,stir continuously. When it dissolves, filter it to remove impurities.
Jaggery Jaggery water - Put jaggery water into the cooked rice and dal.cook it for 4-5 min so that jagerry completely blend with rice and dal.
Add jaggry - Put cardamom powder ,mix properly.
- If required add ¼ cup of water or more,give a boil.
- Heat ghee in a pan,put cashew nuts and raisin ,for for a minute .
Ghee Cashewnut & raisin - Then pour into the sweet pongal.
Put Cashewnut & raisin in pongal - Your delicious sweet pongal is ready to offer god.
