Instant appe / Instant rava paniyaram/Paddu Recipe

Paniyaram or Appe is prepared with leftover idli batteror dosa batter. They are crisp from out and soft from inside.

But here I am sharing this instant version which prepared with semolina and curd. This recipe is a easier than the normal appe.

Appe is a south indian breakfast recipe which is known as paniyaram in tamilnadu, paddu in karnataka and ponganalu in telugu.

            Appe or paniyaram are prepared in a special pan or mould known as paddu pan / paniyaram pan /Ebleskiver Pan,which has 7, 9 or 12 shell shapes.

INGREDIENTS OF INSTANT APPE

  • Rava / semolina / sooji-1cup
  • Curd / yogurt-1/2 cup
  • salt to taste
  • water -1/4cup or as needed
  • Oil-2tsp
  • Ginger-1 inch  grated
  • Green chilli-2finely chopped
  • Onion-1finely chopped
  • Curry leaves-1 string  chopped
  • a pinch of baking soda

Preparation

Steps of Instant appe recipe:

Prepare batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl take rava, curd and salt.Mix well to form a paste without forming any lumps.

  2. Add required amount of water.Mix well to form thick batter. keep aside.

Prepare tadka

  1. Heat oil in the pan/kadhai, add mustard seeds .

  2. When the seeds splutter, add curry leave, green chilli,ginger,onion.

  3. Saute for a minute or till onions shrink slightly.7
  4. Transfer the tadka into prepared rava batter.

  5. combine well.

  6. Rest the batter for 20 minutes or untill rava absorbs water.
  7. Then add a pinch baking soda just before preparing appe and combine well.

Prepare appe

  1. Heat appe pan, add add few drops of oil inside the holes.

  2. Fill the holes with a tbsp of sooji batter in each.

  4. once the base turns golden, flip it over to the other side using a spoon.15.jpg
  5. simmer further and cook on low heat until it turns golden browns.

Serve instant rava apee with tomato chutney or coconut chutney .
